COMPANY
Established in January 2018, Borealis Tankers is focusing on commercial management of modern chemical tankers.
With an experienced and dedicated team, we provide top notch service to our clients for more profitable business solutions in shipping.
Our largest shareholder is Borealis Maritime Limited, an independent and international shipping company based in London, which is managing a large and diversified fleet.
Besides managing part of the Borealis Maritime Limited-managed fleet, Borealis Tankers also serves third-party owners by offering their expertise in providing commercial management, including both time charter and bareboat opportunities.

Christoph E. TOEPFER
Founding Partner and Non-Executive Director
Prior to co-founding Borealis Tankers, Christoph co-founded Borealis Maritime Ltd. (UK) and is the CEO of the company. Prior to that he was Managing Director of Allocean Limited, a UK and Singapore based diversified shipping group that owned and managed 60 vessels. Allocean was a 100% subsidiary of the investment house Allco Finance Group of Australia. Christoph joined Allocean in 2006 as Deputy Managing Director and led Allocean’s investment and commercial teams. He was promoted to Managing Director in June 2008 and led the restructuring and sales process of Allocean in 2009. Before joining Allocean, Christoph ran Toepfer & Co., his own ship brokerage business in London. His previous experience includes full time positions with Tufton Oceanic and Dresdner Bank in corporate advisory and banking. Christoph holds a Master’s degree in Shipping, Trade & Finance from Cass Business School, City University in London and a Bachelor’s degree in financial management from Syracuse University, New York. Christoph is German.
Elias SAKELLIS
Founding Partner and Non-Executive Director
Prior to co-founding Borealis Tankers, Elias has been the Chief Investment Officer of Borealis Maritime Ltd. (UK). Prior to joining Borealis Maritime, Elias was Partner at Pillarstone, a private equity platform focused on European banks’ non-performing and underperforming assets. Before joining Pillarstone, he was Managing Director of Quantum Pacific, a private holding group controlling assets in the maritime, energy, and natural resources sector. Before Quantum Pacific, Elias worked for Goldman Sachs in London in its Investment Banking and Equities’ Divisions. He started his career in Lehman Brothers in London. Elias holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from INSEAD, and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Finance from Imperial College, London. Elias is Greek.
Capt. O. Levent KARSAN
Founding Partner and Non-Executive Director
Prior to co-founding Borealis Tankers, Levent co-founded Borealis Denizcilik A.S. and is the managing director of the company. Before co-founding Borealis Denizcilik A.S., Levent was the managing director of Armona Denizcilik for 10 years, specializing on Technical Management of chemical tankers as well as shipbuilding. His background covers sea experience onboard vessels for 8 years and he is an Oceangoing Master. He has an accumulated experience of 33 years in Maritime Industry. He also worked as Commercial Manager, Fleet Manager and Board Member in various companies. He also holds a Business Administration degree. Levent is Turkish.
Capt. Kutay SOMAKLI
Founding Partner and Managing Director
Prior to co-founding Borealis Tankers, Kutay was the Chartering Manager of Atlantis Tankers for 4 years, specializing on Commercial Management of the company’s inhouse fleet of chemical tankers. Before working at Atlantis, Kutay was the Chartering Manager of MRC shipping, and prior to that, during his sea experience, Kutay was onboard chemical tankers of Zodiac Maritime and several other companies for 8 years. Kutay is an Oceangoing Master and holds a degree in Maritime Sciences from Istanbul Technical University. Kutay is Turkish.
Fatih METEOĞLU
Founding Partner and Managing Director
Prior to co-founding Borealis Tankers, Fatih used to work as a Tanker Broker at Atlantis Tankers and before that at Uni-Chartering/Ibex Maritime, which focus on Commercial Management of chemical tankers. Fatih holds an Industrial Engineer degree from Sabanci University and he has a diploma in Shipping Management from London Institute of Shipping and Transport. Fatih is Turkish.
